Help… My dishwasher Won’t drain!

help my dishwasher wont drain

Have you opened your dishwasher and found a big puddle of water? Don’t panic because there are a few things you can do yourself before you ring your emergency plumber Perth! We’ll help you tackle the problem in 8 easy steps.

1 – Drain Your Dishwasher

You can easily drain the water from your dishwasher by yourself. Try scooping larger amounts of water with a ladle. When it becomes shallow, you can use cloth and paper towels to soak up the remaining water.

2 – Clear the Drain Hose

The drain hose connecting your sink and garbage disposal could be the cause of your problem. Inspect it to see whether the seal fits tightly and whether it is clogged. You can disconnect the hose pipe and blow in it or use a wire coat hanger to unblock it.

3 – Inspect the Bottom of Your Dishwasher

Once you empty and drain your dishwasher, you can inspect the bottom to see if there are any items that could be blocking it. A small piece of food, a baby spoon or another miniature object can block the water flow.

4 – Clear Your Drain Basket

The problem can also be gunk in a drain basket which is located at the bottom of your dishwasher. Try to remove all the dirt and debris with your hands. If necessary, you can also use a mix of baking soda and vinegar to clear the dirt. Leave the mixture there for 20 minutes before rinsing.

5 – Make Sure You are Using the Right Detergent

Dishwasher are designed to use a specific type of detergent which cleans without producing suds. If you have accidentally used the wrong detergent, just clear out excess water and run your machine again.

6 – Check the Filter

The cause of the problem can be a dirty or damaged filter. Use your manual to locate this filter (it is usually on the bottom of the dishwasher) and read the instructions on how to clean it. You might need to replace the filter with a new one, so call your trusty plumber to do this for you. When it comes to kitchen plumbing, Perth has experts that are available day and night to help you with emergencies.

7 – Inspect the Drain Valve

A drain valve can be stuck and therefore unable to function properly. Usually, it is located at the bottom of the appliance, so find it and check if it can move freely.
